Heroes in Fight Against Aids Announced: AID FOR AIDS Gala Honorees Named

Four honorees to be recognized for their unwavering courage and perseverance in the battle against HIV and AIDS.

New York, NY, November 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Jesús Aguais, Executive Director of AID FOR AIDS International (www.aidforaids.org) announced today this year's 2009 ‘My Hero’ recipients. The four honorees will be awarded at the upcoming ‘My Hero Gala’ in the Grand Ball Room of the Puck Building on WORLD AIDS DAY, Tuesday, December 1st, 2009.

The 2009 'My Hero' honorees are Mark Consuelos, television and film actor, for his unrelenting commitment to raise awareness in the fight against HIV and AIDS; Dr. Julio Jose Frank Mora, Dean of the Faculty at the Harvard School of Public Health, for his tireless work to improve care for people living with HIV and AIDS through public policy reform; Daphne Rivera, for her role as an activist working to improve quality of life for people living with HIV; and Scotiabank, for their unprecedented leadership in corporate responsibility on HIV and AIDS.

“The theme of this year’s Gala is ‘life delivery’,” said Jesús Aguais from his AID FOR AIDS office. “This truly sums up the bottom line of the awardees’ work. They are true humanitarians and real-life heroes. We owe them our gratitude as we continue to seek ways to improve the lives of those living with HIV and AIDS.”

The gala will be co-chaired by former 'My Hero' honorees Narciso Rodriguez (‘07), fashion designer, and Vivian Fernandez de Torrijos, former 1st Lady of Panama (‘06). The event will also feature a special performance by Latin Grammy-winning singer Milly Quezada.
