Angelia Washington Receives LMC Workforce Development "Gears of Excellence" Leadership Award
Charleston, SC, November 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Angelia Washington, regional human resources manager at Rhodia and Trident Workforce Investment Board member was honored at the Lowcountry Manufacturers Council’s (LMC) annual award meeting with the Workforce Development "Gears of Excellence" Leadership Award.
“The LMC workforce development committee wanted to recognize individuals in manufacturing who are making a difference by getting involved in the community, were committed to education, and who were promoting careers in manufacturing and had a positive impact on the region’s current and future workforce,” said Jennifer DeWitt, Executive Director of the Lowcountry Manufacturers Council.
One goal of the award was to highlight how companies and employees can be a part of the solution for the workforce challenges we all face. We encourage manufacturing leadership to get involved in the schools, make sure your employees participate and are engaged in the community. Schools need the manufacturers support, and we need the schools to provide us with a qualified workforce today and in the future.
Washington received the award in recognition for her “excellence, leadership, vision and service. She works with local schools and parent groups near her home and business; speaks with teachers, students and counselors and advocates the value of careers in manufacturing; and emphasizes the importance of reading and math skills to prepare students,” said Priscilla Roper, human resources manager of Charleston Marine Containers, and also a Trident Workforce Investment Board member, who presented the award.
In addition, Washington serves on Rhodia’s community advisory panel; spearheads the Trident United Way campaign; coordinates the company’s annual scholarship program in the community; serves in a leadership role with Teacher's Supply Closet, the YWCA, the LMC Workforce Development Committee, and the Trident Workforce Investment Board.
