Trident Workforce Investment Board Annual Awards Ceremony
Charleston, SC, November 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Trident Workforce Investment Board recognized three area companies and thirteen One Stop customers at its 19th Annual Workforce Investment Board Awards Luncheon held in the Trident Technical College Complex for Economic Development.
Janet Cappellini, Chair of the Trident Workforce Investment Board, welcomed everyone for “joining us to celebrate the successes of our One Stop customers.” She also formally congratulated the award winners “for their hard work and dedicated effort.”
“The Trident Workforce Investment Board is responsible for developing the region’s workforce. Through the One Stop Career System and the partnerships established with other workforce development organizations, the Workforce Investment Board develops programs and services to provide job readiness training, career counseling, skills training, and incumbent worker training,” said Cappellini. “We also provide assistance with recruitment, assessment, and selection of new employees for our business customers.”
On behalf of the Trident Workforce Investment Board, she also offered sincere appreciation to the following organizations for their sponsorship of the luncheon: Global Aeronautica; Boeing; Alternative Staffing; Henkels & McCoy; Welded Tube Berkeley; Trident Health System; Trident Technical College; Charleston and Dorchester Adult Education; Force Protection; Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union; Lowcountry Manufacturers Council; Charleston Apartment Association; Palmetto Training Institute; AMCS; Dorchester County Economic Development; Darby Development; IMPACT! After a few brief words from Daniel Davis, Berkeley County Supervisor; Paul Thurmond, Charleston County Council Vice Chair; and Jason Ward, Dorchester County Administrator, Cappellini and Cassandra Jamison, Trident One Stop Career System Director, proudly presented the following awards.
“Outstanding Customers of the Year” awards were presented to:
Youth Program: Tamika Robinson, Jaclene Mathis, and Shanovia Ancrum
Dislocated Worker Program: Dwayne Norman, Pernia Bobo, and Mary Freeman
Adult Program: Linda Scarbrough, Twyla Smalls, and Nicholas Parker
TWIB Community Healthcare Training Program: Deborah Ford, Davis Law Firm, SAIC Egan McAllister Associates, and Lafarge North America were honored as “Outstanding Business Customers of the Year”.
After the presentation of awards, Paul L. Connerty, Trident Workforce Investment Board Executive Director added his congratulations and appreciation to the award winners.
A drawing to benefit the C. deVineau White Scholarship Fund ended the day’s events. The C. deVineau White Scholarship, established in 1996 honoring the memory of former employee C. deVineau White, is awarded each year to a deserving youth attending Trident Technical College.
The mission of the Trident Workforce Investment Board (TWIB) is to develop the region’s workforce by providing high quality workforce development programs and services to its customers. To accomplish this mission, it created a market driven and user-friendly workforce system investing workforce funding to recruit, prepare, and train workers with the skills needed to support existing industry and attract new industry to the tri-county region.
The TWIB provides funding for the Trident One Stop Career System, a nationally recognized workforce development system staffed by some of the best trained workforce professionals in the nation.
One Stop Centers are located at: 107 East Main Street, Moncks Corner; 1930 Hanahan Road, North Charleston;, and 2885 West 5th North Street, Hwy 78, Summerville. Affiliate sites include: Baptist Hill Adult Education, Hollywood; East Cooper Community Outreach, 1145 Six Mile Road, Mt. Pleasant; SC Security Commission, 176 Lockwood Drive, Charleston; and St. George Adult Learning Center, 121 South Metts Street, St. George.
