Dublin, Ireland, November 13, 2009 --(PR.com)-- RUA RED’s impressive Gallery 1 space is hosting work from acclaimed artists Antony Gormley and Amanda Coogan as part of the new exhibition ‘Figuring It Out’.

Tallaght Community Arts is delighted to be hosting the exhibition Figuring It Out in partnership with the Irish Museum of Modern Arts National Programme and Year 2 Students from Jobstown Community College.

The International artists on show are from the Irish Museum of Modern Arts Collection and include:

Amanda Coogan,
Antony Gormley,
Isabel Nolan,
Denis Oppenheim
Beverley Semmes

Each piece is an exploration on the human figure which is presented in, sculpture, photography, video and installation.

The Jobstown Community College students have co-curated the exhibition and produced the design for the invitation and accompanying literature. They have also created a Response Wall where members of the public visiting the exhibition are invited to make their own creative responses. These responses will remain on display throughout the exhibition.

Tallaght Community Arts are holding workshops with National and Secondary Schools during the exhibition period.

The Irish Museum of Modern Art’s National Programme, now in its eleventh year, is designed to promote the widest possible involvement with the Museum’s Collection and programmes, through creating access opportunities to the visual arts in a variety of situations and locations in Ireland. IMMA’s Collection is the focal point for each project.

The design and implementation of these projects involves an engagement with the various communities, using the Collection as the core resource to evoke a series of different responses in each venue. The National Programme is also committed to working with venues normally outside the scope of the contemporary art world.

This core principle involves a process of encouraging people to view and enjoy ownership of their national collections, as held by IMMA, in their own locality and on their own terms. As a central aim the National Programme is to disseminate the Museum’s core values of excellence, inclusiveness, and accessibility on a national level.

Tallaght Community Arts (TCA) has worked the National Programme for over 10 years and has previously exhibited the work of prominent artists such as John Kindness, Dorothy Cross and Paddy Jolley bringing their work to the attention of diverse communities in Tallaght and South Dublin County.

However the scale of the Figuring It Out exhibition is bigger than previously presented by TCA. This is the first time we have shown the work of 5 artists from the Irish Museum of Modern Arts’s National Collection at one time.

It is also the first time Tallaght Community Arts have worked with school students to co –curate an exhibition.

The magnificent Gallery 1 at RUA RED enables us to present the work in a setting and scale that will we believe capture the public’s imagination.

Exhibition Dates: Tuesday 17 November – Saturday 5 December 10 am – 6pm

Preview: Monday 16 November 6 30pm

The exhibition will be opened by Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr Mick Duff
