Logitech Acquisition of LifeSize Bodes Well for Telepresence Industry Reports BrightCom
BrightCom, manufacturer of integrated video, audio and data for telepresence and video conferencing asserts Logitech’s acquisition of LifeSize Communications will open up more interoperability in telepresence industry.
Huntington Beach, CA, November 13, 2009 --(PR.com)-- BrightCom™, the performance leader in integrated telepresence and video conferencing solutions, announced today its enthusiasm regarding Logitech’s acquisition of LifeSize Communications, stating that the purchase will enable BrightCom as well as other telepresence vendors interoperability with Logitech’s desktop video endpoints, extending BrightCom’s telepresence and video conferencing infrastructure via SIP and H.239 to a wider variety of personal desktops, home offices, corporate offices, conference rooms and telepresence suites.
According to Howard Lichtman, Founder and President of the Human Productivity Lab, “The future of videoconferencing is the software-based codec running on general purpose (albeit high end... for now) general purpose processors connected to a low-cost, high quality HD camera via a USB 3.0 connection.”
Mr. Lichtman continued, “[…] BrightCom like many other players in the industry including Teliris, [and Vidyo] use the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 for their desktop implementations and I and many others have seen 720p video running at 60fps using a Logitech camera... [sic].”
Bob McCandless, CEO of BrightCom agrees. “Desktop videoconferencing is becoming an instant and everyday communication tool that many businesses are providing not just to their executives, but to all of their employees. Logitech’s decision to acquire LifeSize will be a great way for businesses to extend their conferencing infrastructure to connect with more endpoints, expanding their reach internally as well as to partners and customers.”
BrightCom’s infrastructure is the Visual Collaboration System, a processor based, single network appliance that provides businesses with meeting scheduling, administration and a complete set of integrated video and web conferencing capabilities.
VCS powers BrightCom’s Lumina Telepresence and ClearView Video Conferencing with high definition, standard definition video and audio broadcasts to be shown in a multi-screen layout chosen by the meeting moderator. Along side multiple data broadcasts, VCS can display up to 16 video broadcasts with an unlimited amount of meeting participants broadcasting from desktop web cams including the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000, conference rooms or telepresence suites around the world. The number of meeting participants depends upon bandwidth and the number of bundled servers. VCS can also support low cost, HD codecs such as LifeSize Passport.
Mr. McCandless continued, “The telepresence and video conferencing industry is gradually becoming more interoperable, which is an excellent advantage for businesses. Organizations that have different communication needs can implement a variety of endpoints such as Skype, Logitech, Cisco and BrightCom. With infrastructure such as BrightCom’s VCS, businesses will be able to easily connect these conferencing systems very smoothly, ensuring a natural environment for teamwork and business relationships to be successful.”
