Nationwide Platforms Helps Demolition Day Go with a Bang
Lutterworth, United Kingdom, November 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Nationwide Platforms were called upon for an unusual job recently. Part of Lavendon Access Services, the UK’s largest powered access supplier, Nationwide Platforms provided Warwickshire based AR Demolition with three scissor lifts to act as sentry points to complete the demolition of two large 46 metre high chimney stacks at Kirby Muxloe, Leicestershire – the last part of a derelict factory to be demolished.
Nationwide Platforms supplied three rough terrain scissor lifts – one 9250, and two GS32 D’s – to act as sentry points prior to, and during the demolition of the chimney stacks. Both models are diesel powered and four wheel drive, therefore suitable for outdoor use, and as they come with rough terrain tyres as standard are also suited to moving over uneven ground.
The GS32 D offers a deck extension, whilst the 9250 has a double deck extension, therefore providing the machine’s operators with the option of a larger platform area to look out from. With working heights of 17.10 metres (9250) and 11.75 metres (GS32 D), both scissor lifts easily afforded the required heights to survey all surrounding ground making sure that no one wandered into restricted areas.
AR Demolition Director, Andy Thompson commented: “We needed three sentry points for this job, but up until the demolition itself we sometimes require to move these observation points due to factors such as changing weather. The scissor lifts are obviously mobile and able to travel over rough ground quickly, and then once in position are completely stable due to the outriggers option we chose. All those involved in our demolitions have a radio, so the team knows exactly what is happening where and when, all overseen from, what we like to call our ‘eyes in the sky’!”
Both towers were demolished with local TV and radio in attendance; the detonator buttons being pushed by a raffle winner with all proceeds in aid of the Breast Care Centre at Glenfield Hospital, Leicestershire.
