CJ Acres Animal Rescue Farm Offers Sanctuary to Thanksgiving Turkey
Jacksonville, FL, November 19, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Think all turkeys are bird-brained, destined to end up on America’s dinner tables on November 26? Well, at least one smart, local fowl will be enjoying a long life at CJ Acres Animal Rescue Farm in Keystone Heights, Florida. With Thanksgiving on the horizon, the gifted-gobbler took up residence at the charity’s farm and refused to leave. After a week of interacting with the farm’s in-need animals, an official invitation was given to “Thomas” to stay on-property for as long as he wanted.
Lee Sackett, co-founder of the animal rescue nonprofit charity said, “One of our organization’s missions is to help in-need animals facing catastrophic events such as floods, hurricanes, or fires. While not technically a disaster in our eyes, a smart turkey, like Thomas, realized the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday may not result in a happy ending and he decided to change that outcome.” Lee also added, “He’s free to leave whenever he wants but has shown no interest, preferring to adopt a small herd of goats as his new flock.”
CJ Acres Animal Rescue Farm is home to over 35 animals who suffered from abuse, abandonment, or neglect. Many were rescued locally, though the farm currently has animals from across the United States and Canada. To find out more about Thomas, other current residents of CJ Acres Animal Rescue Farm, or volunteering opportunities, visit the organization online at www.cjacres.org.
