Hathaway Presented with ABC STEP Award for Safety Training

Atlanta, GA, November 19, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Hathaway Construction Company, Inc. was presented with the STEP (Safety Training & Evaluation Process) Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC). This award is in recognition of the company’s Gold Level of achievement for its ongoing efforts in the development of a quality safety program and evaluation process in 2009. This award is presented yearly to Georgia contractors who have achieved the lowest rate of on the job accidents in the state and have demonstrated the highest commitment to safety. The STEP process, developed and written by contractors for contractors, is a tool designed to objectively evaluate safety programs, policies, procedures and training.

Hathaway’s goal for 2010 is to reach the Platinum Level and become an “Accredited Quality Contractor.” By focusing on key elements of contractor safety programs such as management commitment, safety responsibilities of personnel, and budget, Hathaway feels that this is an obtainable goal in 2010. Hathaway has begun to devise a list of goals to meet these necessary requirements. For example, the OSHA 10 hour or 30 hour class will be required for all construction staff and will be expected to be renewed every 3 years. Also, employees will be mandated to complete at least one other safety course each year under the employment of Hathaway. In addition to improving the safety record for the company as a whole, a continuing safety and education process will also keep employees safe and healthy on the jobsite.
