Westchester Non Profit Created by Students Raises $25,000 and Sends Two Students on Summer Teen Tours
Trip of a Lifetime, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by twelve high school students from Scarsdale, NY, raised $25,000 to send two students from Yonkers, NY, on summer teen tours to the West Coast.
Scarsdale, NY, November 19, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Every summer, thousands of teenagers throughout the country embark on teen tours. Teen tours are three to six travel experiences that allow students to see the world, make new friends, and develop new confidence in themselves. Most teen tours cost in upwards for seven thousand dollars and in the current economic downturn, fewer students are able to afford these life-changing trips. Trip of a Lifetime, a newly formed 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, raises funding for underprivileged teenagers to go on these summer teen tours.
Trip of a Lifetime was founded in the summer of 2007, when its founder, Stan Rosenberg, a current senior at Scarsdale High School, went on a teen tour himself. Before his trip, Stan was shy and timid but by the end of the experience, his personality and life changed forever. Stan was able to make great friends on his trip, gain a new perspective of the world, and most importantly develop self-confidence. After reflecting on his amazing experience, Stan decided to form a non-profit organization with the help of eleven of his friends to make sure that money would not inhibit a student from experiencing a “trip of a lifetime.”
Since its inception, Trip of a Lifetime has raised over twenty thousand dollars and sent two students from Yonkers, NY, on summer teen tours. The first student selected, Ramon, who is currently a sophomore, remarked that "things I saw on this trip were amazing and unbelievable. Textbook pictures were coming to life for me.” The second student selected, Nick, also a sophomore, stated” those three weeks were arguably the best three of my life, and certainly the best three in a long time.”
Trip of a Lifetime is entirely student-run and operated. Its members meet weekly to discuss fundraising strategies, increase awareness of the organization, and raise as much funding as possible. To raise money, the organization has had silent auctions, local fundraisers, bake sales, and is currently selling T-shirts and wristbands. Its goal is to send between four and six students on teen tours this summer.
