Pre-Season Power Rankings Are Out
The San Diego Surf have been named by the A.B.A, American Basketball Association, as the number one team in the Southern California Division of the ABA in their Pre-Season Power Rankings. The Los Angeles “Slam” was named second in the So. Cal. Division.
San Diego, CA, November 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The San Diego SURF have been named by the A.B.A, American Basketball Association, as the number one team in the Southern California Division of the ABA in their Pre-Season Power Rankings. The Los Angeles “Slam” was named second in the So. Cal. Division.
Power Rankings are based on the performance and experience of the players and coaches. Coach Terry Mason brings a strong coaching background to the “Surf” as coach of another ABA team in San Diego from 2006 - 2008, a season with the Summer Pro League, Assistant Director / Coach for the Superstar Invitational Basketball Camps in 2007 and a 31-year high school coaching career in San Diego County.
Surf players leading the charge with past professional experience are shooting guard Mike “Money” McNair (N. Arizona Univ.), who scored 31-points against the Riverside "Rainmakers" Nov. 7, a crowd favorite, 6'8" power forward Jamal Kendricks, (Midwest State Univ., TX), and 6'7" forward Aaron Hands, (U.C Riverside).
Two outstanding newcomers that are showing promise for the Surf this season are 6'7" small forward Brian Hills, (Biola Univ. & Univ. of Anchorage) and 6'4" point guard Chris Agnes, (Morehouse College, GA), scoring 15-points and 26-points respectively in the Riverside game.
Both Aaron Hands and Chris Agnes are originally from San Diego.
The San Diego “Surf” competed on Wednesday, November 18 in a pre-season scrimmage game against the U.S. Marines Camp Pendleton Varsity Basketball Team at the Pendleton Page Field House.
The 2009-2010 league play begins Sunday December 6th against the Riverside "Rainmakers" at the Cathedral H.S. Arena. For team schedule and more information visit our website.
