Redbridge and Yubico Provide Secure IT-Access for Swedish E-Government

Sunnyvale, CA, November 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Värmdö Kommun, a local e-government in Sweden, has chosen Yubico’s authentication key for secure access to their IT-systems. RedBridge, the leading Swedish open source software integrator, has integrated the innovative authentication solution.
Online identity theft is today the fastest growing crime. Leading security experts agree that authentication solutions based on software-only no longer give sufficient protection. But the traditional hardware security solutions that provide a higher level of security, including bank authentication tokens and smart cards, are overall expensive and complicated for IT-departments and users.
To enable high security at a low cost, Värmdö Kommun, a local e-government by Stockholm in Sweden, has chosen the YubiKey for access to selected IT-systems. The YubiKey, which looks like a thin USB-memory, is developed by the Swedish innovation company Yubico. The product uniquely enables the user to generate encrypted pass codes in a simple touch of a button and works on all computers, platforms and browsers without the need for client software.
“As more e-government services are moved to the Internet, there is a growing need to securely identify the user. With the YubiKey, we can login easily and securely at a considerably lower cost than with traditional hardware security solutions,” says Jörgen Sandström, CIO Värmdö Kommun.
Yubico’s business is to develop and sell the authentication-key hardware and provide the server software for free and as open source. RedBridge, which have helped several Swedish e-governments to integrate open source, has supported Värmdö Kommun with the integration of the YubiKey.
