We The People, Inc. of the United States Leads the Nonprofit Sector in International Giving
We The People, Inc. of the United States is currently marked at donating over 60 million dollars to international humanitarian aid in 2009. This puts this one organization alone at comprising half of all monetary proceeds given overseas by all southern-sectored 501(c)3s this year.
Tallahassee, FL, November 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In the suburbs of Florida’s capital, a stealth powerhouse is leading the way in domestically-funded overseas giving for 2009. We The People, Inc. of the United States [WTP] a charitable nonprofit corporation organized in 1987, is receiving their fair share of notoriety for their over 60 million dollars in international aid donated since the beginning of this year. Last month they shipped a second container to Lusaka, Zambia; 26,650 pounds of relief materials valued at 21.8 million dollars.
When Bill Henry of America’s Heart, a Jacksonville-based nonprofit corporate sole, was able to communicate the goal of his international relief organization to Bill Reeves (Vice President of WTP) and Richard Olive (Director of Development of WTP), the giving began. America’s Heart operates out of a 32,000 sq ft warehouse that exports domestically donated relief supplies to hard-to-transport locations, such as Afghanistan, the location of WTP’s first shipment. WTP funds the relief projects; America’s Heart ships it.
According to the Foundation Center’s 2008 Edition of US Foundation Giving Trends, 1.6 billion was donated by all reporting US 501(c)3 organizations overseas. The National Center for Charitable Statistics is expecting an 8% decline in all charitable giving this year. Assuming the Foundation Center’s trends perpetuate throughout 2009, that would set WTP at comprising nearly 4% of the entire domestic international-giving-pie. The Foundation Center breaks this down further into four demographic sectors; southern states granted a total of 66 million to overseas projects. If statistics happened to remain the same this year, and WTP’s 60 million given (thus far) was added to that proportion, this philanthropic gem is projected at constituting over 48% of all international relief funds donated from southern-sectored 501(c)3 organizations for 2009.
WTP’s fourth shipment with America’s Heart, valued at over 20 million dollars, will be shipped to a Ugandan refugee center and hospital currently escaping the tyranny of Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army.
WTP currently receives 0 dollars from public grant money.
