New Novel of the Sea Explores a Love Separated by Tragedy and Time
Denver, CO, October 08, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Tony Kirkland is a merchant mariner whose first assignment has placed him off the coast of Holland in the North Sea. He is a thoughtful young man, who has a plan for his future and a loving wife whom he adores. But during his three-month tour, he experiences dangers of the sea that severely test his mettle as a sailor. When he is at his most vulnerable, he meets the irresistible Anika, a woman from the port town of Den Helder, who disturbs his perfect life and will forever affect his future.
“Tony held her hand in a gentle grasp as electricity surged through their bodies from the touch. It was a moment—one that comes rarely in a lifetime; a moment that was not lost on either soul. Tony was unable to recall the rest of the evening—and in later years, he wasn’t even sure how he made it back to the ship. He did recover, but his life had been altered. Nothing would be as it was. It was as if he had breathed his first breath.”
Author Frank Ridgley is well-acquainted with a sailor’s life and deep love for the sea. He has a degree in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University, has held a license as a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer and a commission as a U.S. Naval Reserve Officer with sixteen years of service, in which he achieved the rank of Commander. He is a member of the U.S. Naval Institute, 12th Man Foundation, and Association of Former Students, TAMU.
His novel, Den Helder, is an intimate story about life-changing events and the choices that alter a man’s life. In a setting that brings to life adventure on the open sea, readers are drawn into one man’s experiences of love, passion, and loss. Den Helder, Ridgley says, was his first professional port of call, and the story was inspired by a “life-changing” three-month tour. Readers will find within Den Helder a powerful tale of the heart’s infinite capacity to love and the ability to endure.
