YourFurnitureLink.com Hosts Innovative, Intense Student Challenge at Harrington School of Design
Chicago, IL, November 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The second Harrington School of Design challenge is on now. Even more exciting and competitive than the original, this season's "Seating and Eating" challenge gives student designers the chance to win cash, credibility and prestige.
This hands on competition was created and sponsored by YourFurnitureLink.com, an internet directory to provide students the rare opportunity of having their designs judged and then actually produced by design industry professionals and manufacturers.
The idea for the challenge came from the owners of YourFurnitureLink.com Vicki Semke and Jerod Lazan after seeing the lack of creativity and innovation seen at the big furniture trade shows. With Vicki being an alumni of Harrington School of Design, they thought it would be a great learning device to have students actually compete with a design on a real life level. Not just drawing pretty pictures, but designing something that would successfully translate into the actual product. The students have to make real budget spread sheets, material sheets, three dimensional drawings, choose finishes, fabrics, etc., and cutting sheets that factories will use to make the winning product. The final project winners receive a scholarship that will go towards the students tuition.
The winning entry will also have the opportunity to be sold at Mortise & Tenon in Los Angeles, and featured on MigandTig.com . Both stores have always incorporated working with their respective communities. Mig and Tig Furniture was featured last year on ABC's Extreme Makeover : Home Edition, while Mortise & Tenon provides set pieces for shows such as Mad Men, CSI, House, Beverly Hills 90210.
Catch the day by day process and commentary on YourFurnitureLink.com proud co-sponsors of the Harrington Design Challenge.
