Maternity Unit Receives Gift for New Infant Transporter
Oceanside, NY, December 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- South Nassau Communities Hospital has once again benefited from the generosity of the Rapaport Family Charitable Trust, which recently donated a gift of $15,000 for the purchase of a new infant transporter for the hospital’s Labor and Delivery Suite.
The new transporter provides a controlled environment to ensure the safety of newborns while they are in transit within the hospital, and it is equipped to supply additional monitoring and support, as needed.
Residents of Rockville Centre whose children were born at South Nassau, the Rapaports have expressed an interest in making gifts for equipment and furnishings that will enhance patients’ comfort and safety.
“We appreciate that the Rapaport Trustees recognize the importance of supporting their local hospital and are grateful for its ongoing support of our mission to provide standard-setting healthcare services to the residents of communities we serve, whenever and wherever it is needed,” said Joseph A. Quagliata, president and CEO of South Nassau.
A previous gift of $10,000 from the Rapaport Family Charitable Trust funded the purchase of fold-out sleeper chairs for patient rooms in the Maternity Services Unit, so that new dads can “room in” with mom and baby, giving parents the ability to experience those precious first hours of their newborn’s life together, as a family.
South Nassau Communities Hospital is one of the region’s largest hospitals, with 435 beds, more than 875 physicians and 2,600 employees. Located in Oceanside, NY, the hospital is an acute-care, not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides state-of-the-art care in cardiac, oncologic, orthopedic, bariatric, pain management, mental health and emergency services. In addition to its extensive outpatient specialty centers, South Nassau is a designated Stroke Center, boasts Long Island’s first and only Gamma Knife and provides emergency and elective angioplasty. South Nassau is designated as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Center by the American College of Surgeons and is recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society of Bariatric Surgery.
