Yubico and Oblivion Bring Strong Two-Factor Authentication to Essent Energy Trading
Sunnyvale, CA, December 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Essent, one of the largest energy companies in the Netherlands, has deployed YubiKeys to their customers for authenticating online orders. The Dutch web developer, Oblivion, built the two-factor authentication service for Essent.
Oblivion has built several web applications for Essent, one of the largest Energy companies in the Netherlands. Customers of Essent can buy energy in advance, based on one or more contracts. When customers want to get an overview of their data they are presented with a summary using standard web security. But the moment a customer wants to place a large order, Essent requires even stronger security and so Oblivion proposed a multi-factor authentication solution for these transactions.
Essent has many other web based applications and they have centralized customer data processing. They wanted a solution that Oblivion could integrate into these new applications and that could talk with the current back office systems. It also needed to provide strong authentication services to existing and other new third-party applications. To meet these requirements, Oblivion built a two-factor authentication service which integrates with the existing back office systems of Essent and the web based applications.
“We chose Yubico because of the open source software which we could easily integrate and extend in our own web services and the simple, robust working of the key itself,” says Eric Carbijn, Oblivion B.V.
Essent chose to use branded YubiKeys, so Oblivion designed and implemented the branding, printing, programming and distribution of the keys.
