Briggs & Riley is Suffolk County’s #1 Corporate Team of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

This year’s contributions, exceeding $26,000, have again led to Briggs & Riley being recognized as the #1 corporate team in Suffolk County. For over 9 years Briggs & Riley has partnered with JDRF in its mission to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

Throughout the year, Briggs & Riley’s staff coordinates various fundraising efforts, including auctions, comedy night, book and CD sales, pizza lunches, and “jeans Fridays.” The campaign drive culminated in a 5K Walk to Cure Diabetes held October 4 at Belmont Lake State Park on Long Island.

Diabetes is a chronic, debilitating disease affecting every organ system. There are two major types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes (an autoimmune disease also known as juvenile diabetes) and Type 2 diabetes metabolic disorder also known as adult onset diabetes). Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes strikes children suddenly, makes them dependent on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. While diagnosis most often occurs in childhood and adolescence, it can and does strike adults as well.
