SheltiePlanet.com is written by an adoring fan of this unique dog breed, with insights into keeping Shelties as pets. It is aimed at anyone who owns a Shetland Sheepdog or is looking for a small to medium dog that makes an excellent companion.
Shelties are loyal and affectionate herding dogs from the Shetland Islands of Scotland. They come from a long line of Scandinavian sheepdogs, only to be crossed with English Collies in the 19th and 20th centuries. This gave them the unique appearance of miniature Collies (or mini Lassie dogs) but were recognized as a separate breed by the American Kennel Club in 1911.
