Festival of the Flutes was held on October 16, 2009, at the Coral Springs Marriott Resort and Convention Center from 7 to 11 p.m. Hosted by Premier Networking Alliance, the annual food and wine charity event raises funds for local nonprofit organizations in need. This year, attendees and sponsors from all over Broward County helped raise $15,802 for Southwest Florida charities Mothers Against Brain Injury, Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund, and Broward Meals on Wheels. Each received a third of the proceeds. The 2009 Festival of the Flutes, which had a Woodstock theme and was titled “It’s Hip to Give,” featured both a silent and a Chinese auction of donated items such as Florida Marlin tickets, golf packages, artwork including art by Romero Britto of Britto Gallery, wine gift baskets, and professional services. Music from the 1960s entertained the crowd of more than 400, who dressed for the theme.
