Omaha, NE, January 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- BroadStreet Theatre Company, which stages productions with a female flair, does it again with the Omaha premiere of “That Takes Ovaries – Bold Women, Brazen Acts”, a riveting, inspiring, and empowering array of true stories – from playful and profound, serious to sassy - written by women from all over the world. The show runs for two weekends, January 15 – 24, 2010 at the OM Center (Healing Arts Center) located in the heart of Omaha’s Old Market.

Roxanne Wach directs the collection of gutsy, bold, outrageous, and courageous stories based on the book of the same title Bobbi Ausubel and edited by Rivka Solomon. The cast features award-winning actresses Denise Chevalier, Andrea Lang, Colleen O’Doherty, Sara Planck, and Emily Jane Thompson.

They take on a wide variety of issues ranging from body image and surviving breast cancer to jumping out of a plane and hairy legs. Several of the monologues and ensemble pieces include, “Declawing Cat Calls”, “Smutmonger”, “Yay for Hairy Women”, “Big Beauty”, “Courage at the End”, and “Letting Justice Flow”.

What I like most about the show is the real-women aspect of it,” says Wach. “Some of the things these women do are so funny and wild. Some are utterly courageous. These are just ordinary people like you and me in situations that anyone can relate to in one way or another. Though these stories are told by women, certainly men will recognize these bold, brave, courageous, and outrageous women in those they know – spouses, girlfriends, sisters, and mothers. It inspires me to think that if these women could do something like that, maybe I can, too.”

Mary Carrick, the show's producer, likens "That Takes Ovaries" to another popular cult play, which she and Wach staged several years ago. “This is along similar lines as ‘The Vagina Monologues’, but with a broader focus, not just below the waist," she says.

Carrick and Wach have added an audience participation component to the production as well. Patrons are encouraged to email their own bold and brazen acts to BroadStreet at broadstreettheatre@hotmail.com. If their story is selected they may have the opportunity to share their tale at one of the six performances and be awarded a “Golden Ovary”. “The atmosphere is going to be fun, joyous, and very ‘you go, girl!” in spirit," adds Carrick. "It’s the ultimate girls night out.”

Adds Wach, “The atmosphere in the OM Center is warm and inviting.” In addition to regular seating, “pillow pit” seating is also available.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. at the OM Center (Healing Arts Center), located at 1216 Howard Street. Tickets are $15 adults and $13 for seniors and students. For tickets, call (402) 344-3257 or purchase online at www.BroadStreetTheatre.com. Note: This production contains adult language and content.
