Updating the Digital Image of a Global Leader in ePublishing
dystrick provided a fully integrated digital brand rejuvenation for HighWire Press, a division of the Stanford University Libraries.
San Jose, CA, January 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- HighWire Press, the leading ePublishing platform for nearly 1300 scholarly journals, books, reference works and conference proceedings, recently announced the launch of its redesigned web portal: http://highwire.stanford.edu. To better serve the three main constituents who use their site (researchers, librarians and publishers), HighWire sought the advice of an inspired partner to refresh, revitalize and re-think their image and were pleased to contract a creative design and communications agency, dystrick design, for their re-branding project.
Drawing on extensive experience in web development and design, the joint HighWire and dystrick design teams conducted an iterative, user-centered design process to re-envision the ideal user experience to an established highly-used web presence. The teams performed intensive usability testing to ensure the new user interface was responsive to the various audience needs while making the website equally easy to navigate and utilize. As a result of this process, the redesign makes key information more accessible, simplifies and facilitates existing administrative functions librarians use to manage HighWire-hosted publications, and connects prospective publishers with more in-depth information on who HighWire is, highlighting its cutting edge technology, unique community, and outstanding service.
The primary overarching objectives of the redesign project were to:
· Develop a new position and fresh design for an established brand
· Perform user testing for brand identity and usability of the web portal
· Define the online experience from the first encounter through the utilization of high-end search tools such as cross platform searching, toll-free inter-publication linking, keyword-in-context, topic browsing, and more.
· Ensure that the digital brand experience incorporates the needs of HighWire’s key constituents: researchers, librarians and publishers
· Distinguish its look from competitors on traditional points of expertise, industry insight, quality of products and services
· Tailor its messaging and content to reinforce the brand and image
“Going into the project we felt there were analogues in the success of the Mozilla Firefox brand in the open source community for what HighWire could achieve and there were opportunities to do some innovative branding with community that leverages the latest Web 2.0 buzz about community and re-values the word-of-mouth strength HighWire has traditionally enjoyed”, said Sean Sinatra, Managing Director at dystrick. “HighWire allows its clients to benefit from the experience of others and lessen the risk of new technology trials and the cost of perfecting and adjusting market solutions to the needs of research communication. Knowledge is freer because of HighWire.”
“We are proud of the new look and feel of the HighWire portal and are delighted with the positive feedback from librarians and publishers,” said HighWire’s Assistant Director for Business Strategy, Kristen Fisher Ratan. “The team at dystrick were a pleasure to work with on this project, offering insight, creativity, and skill, developing and delivering our new look, on time, on our schedule, within their estimated cost.”
