Greystar Partners with the Mesa Police Department on Crime Free Multi-Housing Program

Mesa, AZ, January 10, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Greystar, one of the top Multifamily Property Managers in the nation, has joined forces with the Mesa Police Department on crime prevention efforts. By participating in the Crime Free Multi-Housing program Greystar has been working closely with the Mesa Police Department to reduce crime through tough screening of applicants and an overall commitment to safety in their communities. The Crime Free Multi-Housing program was successfully developed by the Mesa Police Department in 1992.

“Through the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program, we have built significant relationships between the Mesa Police Department and our employees,” said John Rials, Director of Real Estate at Greystar. “The partnership has assisted us with creating safe and desirable places to live.”

The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program utilizes a comprehensive three-part training approach which supports crime prevention while maintaining a tenant-friendly approach. The program assists apartment communities with creating, explaining, and enforcing rental agreements, identifying illegal activity, and working with the police. Special emphasis is given to training managers on applicant screening. Applicants are informed that that they will undergo an extensive screening process, based on a list of selected criteria that they are asked to review. The screening criteria set forth the reasons for which management cannot deny rental to applicants, based on Fair Housing laws.

“Crime affects everyone,” said Patty Gallagher, Crime Prevention Officer. “We believe that reducing crime will not only keep apartment staff members and residents safer, but will reduce overall crime in the city. Being proactive is one of the best defenses.”

Apartment managers and residents, working in cooperation with law enforcement, are learning that they can help to control crime. Benefits of the crime free program include improved safety and a more satisfied tenant base. The program can also contribute to the overall appearance of the entire community and may increase property values as well.
