Atheists Both Mock and Admire Site That Sells Jesus, One Pixel at a Time
Los Angeles, CA, January 12, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The website Web-Jesus.com (www.web-Jesus.com) got thousands of visits in 1 hour from a popular forum as atheists posted comments both celebrating the cunning initiative of Web-Jesus.com as well as ridiculing its members.
Web-Jesus.com, a site that sells pixels over a digital image map of Jesus Christ, where members leave prayers, confessions, dedications, and random messages, has become a battlegrounds between hard core Christian believers, skeptics, and people just trying to have some fun.
Many of the member comments are not without controversy. One asks Jesus to help him buy a Bentley. Another one to bless his basketball team. Another one asks Jesus for the strength to stop patronizing prostitutes, and another thanks Jesus for helping him overcome his porn addiction.
It is now hard to tell between real messages of faith and inside jokes between friends who have found a forum to parody the religious intoxicated masses who are willing to pay $1.99 to leave a permanent comment on an image of Jesus. Of course, the ones in it for the joke also have to pay to post.
On the forum, user philosarapter says, "This will be the next million dollar homepage. Damn, getting rich is so easy that I never think of it until its already been done." And robish518, "Televangelism in the internet age (e-Vangelism)? I'm not really sure how I feel about this. There's a whole entire market of self help books out there. Just because it's Christian, does that make it wrong? My instinct tells me that it's unethical to sell people help (whether Christian or not). Any thoughts?"
Owners of the site have declined to comment on the new cult-like success of their website.
