Metal vs. Wood/Wood vs. Metal at The Cathedral Gallery
The Crucible’s art gallery in Oakland’s historic Cathedral Building announces its first exhibition of the new year. “Metal vs. Wood/ Wood vs. Metal” is a group exhibition “showdown” featuring new works of art of metal and/or wood. Encompassing a diversity of techniques, such as joinery, carving, turning, welding, forging, pouring, and machining, Metal vs. Wood showcases work that pushes the boundaries of what these materials have to offer. Opening Reception January 21st 6-9PM.
Oakland, CA, January 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Crucible’s art gallery in Oakland’s historic Cathedral Building, at the triangle between Broadway and Telegraph Avenues, announces its first exhibition of the new year. “Metal vs. Wood/ Wood vs. Metal” is a group exhibition “showdown” featuring new works of art of metal and/or wood.
Both medias are rooted in tradition and history, and have been utilized for their material qualities for millennia, yet contemporary artists tend to gravitate towards working with one or the other. Encompassing a diversity of techniques, such as joinery, carving, turning, welding, forging, pouring, and machining, Metal vs. Wood showcases work that pushes the boundaries of what these materials have to offer.
Selected Bay Area artists creating functional or sculptural works from metal and/or wood, will be exhibiting together from January 21st through March 5th at the Crucible’s Cathedral Gallery located at 1603 Broadway in Downtown Oakland. Exhibit Opening Reception is January 21, 2010, from 6-9PM. Exhibiting artists include: Ben Carpenter, Patricia Chavez , Tory Fink, Jason Hickey, Sabrina Fadial, Liz Judkins, Edward Clapp, Marcus Papay, Laurel Roth, and more.

Great art is visible from the street and sidewalk through windows on three sides of the gallery 24/7; the gallery is staffed every Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 2PM, 6-9PM on 1st Fridays, and by appointment.

The Crucible is a non-profit arts education center that fosters a collaboration of arts, industry, and community by teaching and showcasing fire, metal, glass, and light art.
