Beauty Bar Announces Plans to Open in Portland, Oregon’s Old Town District in Early 2010
Portland, Oregon will be the next location of the renowned Beauty Bar nightclubs.
Portland, OR, January 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The string of retro beauty parlor–themed bars/nightclubs known as Beauty Bar first opened their doors in New York’s East Village in 1995. Since then, the family of bars with a cult-like following has opened in seven cities across the United States, making Portland its eighth location. Other Beauty Bar cities include Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Austin, Las Vegas and Brooklyn. The enclave of bars features items reclaimed from mid-century beauty salons like classic hair dryer chairs and cultivates a nightlife atmosphere appealing to progressive and savvy urban clientele.
Portland Beauty Bar owners Paul Hinojos and Jake Steele plan to feature Beauty Bar’s signature happy hour event “Martinis & Manicures” (a mere $10 gets you both) as well as host DJs, events and after parties for touring bands and artists.
Hinojos, a Grammy Award–winning rock musician and Portland resident since 2006, first had the idea to open Beauty Bar in Portland after he and his bandmates became regulars of the bars while on tour.
Hinojos, whose musical history includes playing in bands At the Drive-In, Sparta and The Mars Volta, says, “In The Mars Volta we spent a lot of time in Austin, Texas. Our friend Jason (Reece) from Trail of the Dead is a part owner of Austin’s Beauty Bar so we hung out there all the time.” Coming home to Portland, Hinojos and business partner Steele thought Portland needed a Beauty Bar of its own.
“There’s so much going on in Portland right now, especially in Old Town. We’re excited to be a part of the changing climate and bring more young creative energy to the area,” says Steele, a Portland native and regular on the music scene.
Hinojos and Steele are currently renovating the future location of Beauty Bar at 111 SW Ash and plan to open in February of this year.
