Looney’s Smokehouse BBQ maybe new to Oakland, but its original location in Berkeley has been keeping Alameda in BBQ heaven for 3 years, now the demand for their take on good o’southern cooking has launched a second location.
From BBQ nachos piled high, mac’n’ cheese with a kick, pork smoked to perfection, and ribs that will have you reaching for the napkins, owner Ken Looney has created a menu that keeps people coming back for more. It’s no wonder why, when BBQ styles from the south, south-east, and south-west are represented. Mr. Looney himself grew up in Texas and spent his youth experiencing generations of southern barbeque, as he grew up he soon found himself with a degree in physics, a Navy contract, and a chance to fall in love with new BBQ styles in the east coast and west coast.
As the years passed Ken found he loved to make good BBQ as much as he loved to eat it. What first began as an experiment in his staple vinegar based BBQ sauce, would result in a passion for providing the best possible food, at huge portions, and good prices.
Now Looney’s has been named the Best BBQ in Alameda county and even their bread pudding, cobbler, and chilli have all been award winners.
Ken Looney hopes his food can make customer’s love BBQ as much as he does.
