BPSOS Joins Asian American and Pacific Islander Communities in Calling for Comprehensive Immigration

BPSOS, a national Vietnamese American community organization, announced today that it will participate in the National Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Week of Action in order to call on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Falls Church, VA, January 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Boat People SOS (BPSOS) announced today that it will participate in the National Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Week of Action in order to call on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform. All communities, including AAPIs, have an important stake in the passage of comprehensive immigration reform, which should be a top priority in the 111th Congress.

The National Asian American Pacific Islander Week of Action, which runs January 12-20, is a collaborative effort among national, state and local Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations and allies to demonstrate the collective power and voice of AAPIs in the comprehensive immigration reform debate. BPSOS will work with other community-based organizations that serve immigrant and refugee populations at both local and national levels to engage community members in the broader Reform Immigration For America campaign and show Congress the urgency of addressing immigration reform this year.

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thang, Executive Director of BPSOS states, “Immigration policy has a significant impact on the Vietnamese American community. Coming to America as former refugees and immigrants, Vietnamese Americans understand that a common sense approach is needed for immigration reform, and our community must do our part in contributing to the national discussion.”

BPSOS is committed to collaborating with other stake-holders and mobilizing Vietnamese Americans across the U.S. to stay informed and support the passage of sensible immigration reform this year.
