Muslims Help Victims of Earthquake in Haiti
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community partners with Humanity First to deploy Disaster Response Team to affected areas.
Silver Spring, MD, January 19, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA offers its sincere condolences and prayers to the victims of the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, late Tuesday. With tens of thousands of people feared dead and many more displaced, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community are stepping up to help provide disaster relief.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA has partnered with the charitable and relief organization Humanity First (http://usa.humanityfirst.org/) in this time of crisis. Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community are volunteering with Humanity First to be sent to Haiti as a rescue team to provide relief to local victims.
In response to this earthquake, Humanity First immediately deployed its Disaster Response Team to Haiti with emergency supplies. Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA (including doctors) are joining them for this cause. Preliminary relief efforts are focused on the distribution of food, water, medical assistance, and emotional support.
“This is a truly tragic incident and the level of devastation can scarcely be comprehended” said Dr. Nasim Rehmatullah, Vice President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA. “Our prayers are with all those who have been affected by the earthquake. May God Almighty grant them strength and endurance at this time.”
About the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community:
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans over 190 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1921, is the first American-Muslim organization.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Islam of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.
