Up; New Paintings by Rachel Gillen

Covington, KY, January 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Swayne on Main is pleased to present Up, featuring new paintings by Rachel Gillen. Up will occur March 5, 2010 – April 30, 2010 at 518 Main Street, Covington, Ky. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6-9pm. The sky paintings featured in Up are in correlation with Rachel Gillen's recent move from San Francisco to Cincinnati after earning her bachelor's degree from the Academy of Art University. They touch on the unknown, the questions with no answers, the changing tide in the art world and the economy, happiness, despair, and everything in between. As a whole, and regardless of the religious undertones they may or may not convey, we as a society tend to look “up” when we are happy, sad, angry, or confused. These paintings are Gillen's attempt at questioning that whole process.

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Rachel Gillen studied painting in San Francisco, where she focused her skills and produced a body of work that is remarkably adroit, her application of paint careful and exacting. The reflective quality of the work correlates with Gillen's internal reflection. The images are borne of the life experiences and memories of past, present and what is to come.
