The Invisible Crisis No One is Talking About

There is a crisis that’s permeating every aspect of our society and crippling our communities, but because of the stigma it carries we lock it in the dark and make it an invisible crisis.

Austin, TX, January 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Depression Project, a 501c3 non profit, is taking on this crisis that is the number one leading cause of disability for 18-44 yr olds in the USA, the second leading cause of death in the world and is hitting our preschoolers who are the fastest growing group with a diagnosable condition. The invisible crisis is Depression.

Anna Miller, CEO/Founder of The Depression Project says the issue is bigger than we know and a new direction is needed. The social, emotional and economic costs are soaring. The corporate impact alone is staggering. Depression’s annual toll on U.S. businesses amounts to over $70 billion in medical expenditures, lost productivity and related costs. Many of the current agendas are comprised and driven by politics, profit and misperception. The simple approach of people helping people has become overshadowed and undervalued.

That’s why Anna created The Depression Project, whose focus is to liberate the world of depression, one person at a time by focusing on what works. “It is a community for all who experience depression and a place they can come to for help and resources”. Depression strikes 1 in 4 people each year and until we remove the stigma and the embarrassment, the Invisible Crisis will continue to grow.

The Depression Project, officially launched this month, will be the global hub for the prevention and recovery of depression. "Our focus is on generating creative thought and new actions to defeat depression and reduce the negative economic, social and emotional impact throughout the community. We are taking on what many have said is an impossible task, but those afflicted with depression are deserving of possibility".

Anna understands firsthand the stigma, challenges, issues and pathways to recovery needed to bring about sustainable healing. She has documented her personal story of complete recovery from a bipolar diagnosis in her book, Madness, Mania and Miracles.
