The Sugar Hill Gang Still Remains Pioneers of Rap After 30 Years
The Sugar Hill Gang hangs out with co-hosts of the Prisonworld Acapella Radio Hour, Rufus & Jenny Triplett, and talk about their 30 year career.
Powder Springs, GA, January 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Do you remember where you where when you hear “Now what you hear is not a test I’m rappin to the beat?” Well you would have had to have been over 30 years old because the group responsible, The Sugar Hill Gang, best known for that song Rapper’s Delight, is celebrating 30 years.
The pioneers of rap stopped by the Prisonworld Acapella Radio Hour to chat about their career and how the song that was responsible for launching a new genre has changed their lives. The group is gearing up for a huge 30 year anniversary and has already made appearance on CNN and The Wendy Williams Show.
The crew has remained current and transcended generations with several artists and television shows such as Missy Elliott, Living Single, and Family Guy, referencing and re-recording their music. Their second biggest hit Apache, also known as Jump On It, has become a pop culture favorite due to the hilarious performance to the song by Wil and Carlton on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Husband and wife team Rufus & Jenny Triplett co-host the Prisonworld Acapella Radio Hour which is distributed by Dawah International LLC, a multimedia company, and could definitely relate to the group’s clean cut way of living. “It is always refreshing to find people in the music business that choose not to drink, smoke, do drugs hang out, and just be good role models”, says Jenny. “Sometimes people consider us “odd” or “goodie, goodie” because we choose a straight path.” Rufus loves the fact that they are rappers who are giving back to their communities. “Some people give money but when you can give good advice and wisdom to children from your own situations then that is better than money. Sometimes it’s priceless.”
