Quantros Enlists Medical Informatics Expert to Expand International Adoption of Leading Patient Safety and Quality Solutions
Dr. Syed Tirmizi to further alliances and global presence for Quantros in emerging healthcare markets
Boston, MA, January 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Syed Tirmizi, MD, a longtime clinician and medical informatics leader at the US Department of Veterans Affairs, joined Quantros today as Vice President of International Business Development and Government Relations. Tirmizi helped lead the VA into its position as a pioneer in the use of electronic medical records (EMR) for point of care service delivery, enabling meaningful use of data to further patient safety and quality initiatives.
Tirmizi’s clinical and medical informatics background make him a valued addition to the Quantros team. He chaired the VA-DoD Clinical Decision Support work group and belonged to the VA’s Evidence Based Practice Workgroup since 2003. Tirmizi also has had wide experience as a practicing internist, Chief of Medicine & Primary Care as well as Chief of Staff. Because of Tirmizi’s international expertise, he became an ambassador for the VA to healthcare organizations around the world.
Over 20-plus years at the VA, Tirmizi led federal efforts to improve clinical care through knowledge management and clinical decision support at the point of care. A U.S.-trained internist and health informatician, he championed medical informatics education as the course director of the VA distance learning clinical informatics course and Program Director of the VA Medical Informatics fellowship program, and met regularly with and presented to international delegations interested in learning from the VA’s experience with the VistA EHR system. Tirmizi is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at George Mason University, teaching health informatics.
Quantros, having garnered the industry leadership position in safety and quality solutions within the United States, is taking its proven solutions to the global market. This increased international focus will provide data management, clinical decision support and clinical business intelligence solutions for transparency and visibility of safety and quality solutions in healthcare organizations around the world.
“Because of Syed’s knowledge, experience and industry leadership, both nationally and internationally, he is a perfect fit for Quantros, particularly at this time of increasing focus on global quality of care,” said Sanjaya Kumar, MD, Quantros’ President and Chief Executive Officer.
“Healthcare quality is increasingly becoming a global issue,” Tirmizi said. “I’m excited about the opportunities that are emerging within the Middle East, India, Singapore, and Malaysia, to name a few, and Quantros’ solutions are consistent with the healthcare quality and safety efforts promoted by Joint Commission International and the World Health Organization.”
Prior to his residency training in the U.S., Tirmizi was Medical Officer at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Hospital & Clinics in the United Arab Emirates.
Tirmizi will begin his Quantros tenure with a featured speaking engagement during the Arab Health Congress in Dubai in late January. He will address the Middle East/North Africa chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) on the topic, “Leadership’s Role in Patient Safety and Quality.”
