Tamika & Friends Spearheads Congressional Lobbying Effort on Behalf of Cervical Cancer Awareness and Prevention

On Wednesday, January 27, 2010, Tamika & Friends hosts a Congressional Briefing on Cervical Cancer at the Rayburn House Office Building, Room B-339, Washington, D.C. The event, which is free and open to the public, is slated to run from at 8:30 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. Then, a group discussion focused on talking points for members of Congress follows. Lobbying for cervical cancer funding and screening commences in the afternoon.

New York, NY, January 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Cervical cancer survivors, patients, caregivers, clinicians and advocates—approximately 40 women from 17 states and the District of Columbia—are to gather courtesy of Tamika & Friends, Inc., a nonprofit organization, to lobby Congressional representatives about cervical cancer and its cure, the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

The event is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday evening, January 26, 2010, with a keynote speech by Dr. Dora Hughes, counselor to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and a former advisor on health and education to President Barack Obama and the late Senator Edward Kennedy. Also scheduled to speak is Deborah Arrindell, vice president of health policy at the American Social Health Association (ASHA) and head of ASHA’s Washington, D.C. office.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is slated to run from at 8:30 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. Congresswomen Debbie Halvorson (D-IL, 11th District) and Rosa DeLauro (D-CT, 3rd District) are scheduled to speak. The briefing is to be emceed by news anchor Cynné Simpson from ABC 7/WJLA-TV. Other speakers include Tamika Felder, founder of Tamika & Friends, and representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).

Approximately 100 Congressional staff, administration and federal agency staff, advocates and cervical cancer survivors, caregivers and clinicians are expected to attend. The afternoon will be devoted to individual lobbying efforts for cervical cancer education and funding.
