Outskirts Press is Pleased to Present Tawanda’s Bed and Breakfast, a Hysterical Journey to Self Rediscovery

Denver, CO, November 09, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Outskirts Press is pleased to present Tawanda’s Bed and Breakfast, a hysterical first effort of a woman’s journey to self rediscovery in a highly unusual and independent fashion. A female Bill Bryson combined with a hint of Jill Connor Browne and a dash of The Milepost  (The Alaskan road trip Bible) is not far off the mark for this debut travel adventure.

Tawanda’s Bed and Breakfast author reveals “There’s a story there”. Author Joy Van Voorst’s solo journey from San Diego to Alaska in a 1987 VW Syncro Vanagon named Tawanda with over 300,000 miles logged on the odometer unveils the possibility to relearn to laugh, live and take chances in life. Her book road trips you through the hysterical and poignant lessons and adventures from the road. Tawanda’s Bed and Breakfast speaks to generations of people who dream of hitting the road to experience nature and the quirky beauty of people. You’ll love reading about the “black bus” incident, laugh through the Idaho backpacking fiasco, weep over the passing of a loved one and cheer for a happy ending.

After a life changing event, high school teacher and life-long Southern Californian, Joy Van Voorst, seizes the opportunity to trade in society’s rules for 40-something women and traffic gridlock for adventure on the road and to finally experience the places she spent years teaching about from textbooks.

Joy admits a softness for “Chick Flicks” and girl power inspirational stories while always secretly wanting to be “Louise” (from the movie Thelma and Louise) without the ending of course. “Afterall, I am a product of the Disney generation and no one ever died in a Disney show unless my parents forgot to send me to bed before the end of the movie”.

Joy now hails from Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula where she and Tawanda continue to rack up the miles in pursuit of good stories while plotting her next mid-life escapade. Being a Cheechako (Alaska newcomer), she keeps busy by not trying to be a bother to real Alaskans. Her most important daily ritual is not becoming bear food by following one simple rule, “Look both ways out your front door before closing it behind you”.
