Mary Carrick and Todd Brooks to Perform Sweetheart-themed Cabaret at Rick's Boatyard February 12th
Mary Carrick and Todd Brooks will perform a mix of Broadway favorites, love ballads, memorable standards, and obscure gems as part of their cabaret show, "Peel Me A Grape: A Cabaret with Heart and Humor" on Friday, February 12th at Rick's Boatyard Cafe in Omaha.
Omaha, NE, January 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Omaha entertainers Mary Carrick and Todd Brooks, will perform their cabaret show, “Peel Me A Grape: A Cabaret with Heart and Humor” at Rick’s Boatyard Café Friday, February 12, 2010 to kick off Valentine’s Day weekend. Showtime is 7:30 p.m., upstairs at Rick’s, which overlooks the picturesque riverfront.
The program features a delightful blend of heart and humor - a whimsical collection of great songs from Broadway, including tender love ballads and showstoppers, memorable standards, and other lesser-known gems.
Known for her lush vocals, exquisite artistry, effervescence, and charm, Carrick pairs with Brooks on piano, who also joins her for several duets.
The duo’s style is true cabaret, with stories and factoids connecting the program, which features songs by Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jule Styne, Stephen Schwartz, Jerry Herman, Frank Loesser, John Buccino, Jason Robert Brown, and more.
“The show offers something for everyone, from lovebirds celebrating Valentine’s Day to friends toasting the evening,” says Carrick. “And what better a setting than playing in front of one of Omaha’s most spectacular views.”
Carrick assures audiences that they will feel right at home with her and her counterpart. “The best thing about the cabaret format is it’s all about connecting with the audience and taking them along for the journey. Music reaches people in a very personal way, so that’s how we approach our show. It’s as if we’re all in the living room together. And, we’ll have some laughs along the way.”
Carrick and Brooks are touring artists with the Nebraska Arts Council. Both have performed extensively as singer-actors with theatres and professional arts organizations throughout the Omaha metropolitan area, including Opera Omaha, Omaha Symphony, Omaha Community Playhouse, SNAP Productions, and BroadStreet Theatre among others. They were recognized with the Outstanding Cabaret Award from the Theatre Arts Guild in 2008 and are currently touring their cabaret show regionally. Brooks is also an accomplished director, music director, and arranger.
Tickets for “Peel Me A Grape” are $25 reserved ($20 at the door). Tickets may be purchased or reserved by calling (402) 345-4545 (ask for Liz). Dinner packages are also available. Rick’s Boatyard is located on Omaha’s riverfront at 345 Riverfront Drive.
