CIO Utilities Summit Announces Latest Attending Delegates Including Dennis Klinger, Former CIO, Florida Power & Light

Honolulu, HI, January 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The CIO Utilities Summit team is pleased to announce recently confirmed attendees Dennis Klinger, Former CIO, Florida Power & Light; Andres Carvallo, CIO, Austin Energy; and Greg Taffet, US Gas & Electric, amongst other leading IT professionals. The CIO Utilities Summit will gather CIOs and IT thought-leaders to strategize and discuss industry challenges they’re facing today. The summit will be held at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, AZ April 18-21, 2010.

Dennis Klinger, Former CIO, Florida Power & Light, recently retired in 2009. At FPL, he was responsible for systems development efforts, computer operations, telecommunications operations, desktop computing and advanced technology planning. Prior to joining FPL in 1995, Dennis was Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Ryder System, Inc. where he was responsible for the corporation’s information systems function. Dennis’ career in information management also includes ten years with the Florida Department of Education. At the CIO Utilities Summit, Klinger will moderate an Executive Think-Tank session titled, “What is the Role of the CIO in Utilities?” on Monday, April 19th.

Andres Carvallo, CIO, Austin Energy, where he is responsible for the technology vision, planning, development and operations across the enterprise. Andres is also the Chief Architect for the first Smart Grid built in the US. In addition to his responsibilities as CIO, Andres is a member of the eight person executive team, and member of the Innovation and Opportunity Development Board. Outside of Austin Energy, Carvallo is Chairman for the Large Public Power Companies’ Smart Grid Task Force, a board member of the Center for Commercialization of Electric Technologies, and a technology advisor to GE Energy, AT&T, University of Texas, University of California, Los Angeles, Kansas University and several start-ups. At the CIO Utilities Summit, Carvallo will present the CIO keynote presentation, “Managing Innovation in the 21st Century”.
