Hallelujah - Platform Lift from movemanSKG Makes Church Wheelchair Accessible
Bethanp Baptist Church contracted movemanSKG to install a Prestige platform lift. Now, wheelchair users can access the basement vestry, where the church holds activities such as Sunday school and coffee mornings.
Leicester, United Kingdom, January 31, 2010 --(PR.com)-- After sustaining flood damage earlier this year, Bethany Baptist Church in Pwllgwaun, Wales, underwent extensive repair and refurbishment. The work includes a Prestige platform lift from movemanSKG, which runs between the ground floor and basement vestry. It provides a valuable access route for wheelchair users.
Bethany Baptist Church is over one hundred years old and is an important part of the Pwllgwaun village community. In addition to Sunday and midweek services, it hosts regular drama workshops, bible study sessions, and coffee mornings. The church also supports Christian missionaries in Nigeria, and gives generously to a wide range of charities.
Many of the church’s activities take place in the vestry, including Sunday school for children and adults. Thanks to movemanSKG’s platform lift, this area is now accessible to people with mobility problems.
John Thomas, Secretary at Bethany Baptist Church, is delighted; “I received an outstanding service from Gary Bound, movemanSKG’s Sales Engineer. He was extremely professional and quickly came up with a design that met our requirements. The lift operates reliably despite almost constant use, and our building is now DDA compliant – a legal requirement in places of worship.”
At Bethany Baptist Church, Prestige travels nearly four metres. It features fire-rated doors and tactile illuminated push-button controls positioned at a convenient height for wheelchair users. Controlled acceleration and deceleration eliminate jolting at landings, and doors lock automatically to prevent people entering the shaft when the platform is in motion.
John continued; “Church visitors using the lift tell me of a smooth, comfortable transition between levels. This feedback is testament to movemanSKG’s excellent installation services. I recommend the company and the Prestige platform lift to others with access needs.”
