Chicago Area Exhibit Company Gives Back

Chicago area exhibit company gives donation to the Chicago Food Depository

Niles, IL, January 31, 2010 --(PR.com)-- As Deb Venable and Peter Crouch, owners of Nimlok Chicago, munched happily on a smorgasbord of homemade food brought in by the employees for the annual holiday party, they said to themselves “boy, are we lucky.” In one of the toughest business years ever, they, along with their employees, had survived. Their business was strong, employees were secure and they had managed to produce modest profits to prepare them for next year. That’s when the light went off…they had to give back.

Earlier that year the employees at the Chicago-area exhibit and event-marketing firm had taken it upon themselves to collect food for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. They rallied together with their clients and vendors to collect over 200 lbs of food. In this same spirit, Venable and Crouch decided to contribute to the cause by donating financially to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. “Our employees started the idea. When we learned how critical the need was at the depository, we felt obligated as a community business to fully support their commitment” said Venable.

According to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, in November 2009, there were 463,200 visits to member food pantries – the busiest month in the organization’s thirty-six year history. This is an 18.5% ahead of last year’s pace in pantry visits, and 55.3% ahead of the pace of two years ago. The Greater Chicago Food Depository supports a network of 600 soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters in the Cook County area.

“This time last year, we were seeing a record-breaking increase in the number of people in Cook County who needed food. Although much has changed in a year, the need continues to grow,” stated Kate Maehr, Executive Director of the Greater Chicago Food Depository. “The support we received from Nimlok Chicago is equivalent to 35,000 meals. I simply cannot thank them enough.”

It is everyone’s hope that the economic struggles in 2009 won’t be repeated. However, it is often during these times that people realize what they have and rise above to help. “We are in a much better position than many others. Providing food to others was our way of giving back,” said Deb Venable. “We are very happy to do it.”
