Taylor Morrison Division Uses Team-building Cash Prize to Help Haiti Earthquake Victims
After leading the homebuilder's fundraising efforts, Taylor Morrison's Austin division finds one more cause to support.
Austin, TX, February 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Taylor Morrison's local division is leading by example when it comes to fundraising and community involvement.
After spending 2009 hard at work on community service initiatives around Texas, the group received a $5,000 award from its corporate office to be used for a division party. Instead, the group donated the money to relief efforts in Haiti.
"Every one of our divisions would have done the same thing," said Tim Towell, Taylor Morrison's division president for Austin. "The devastation in Haiti is unimaginable and we couldn't ignore the pleas for financial assistance."
Taylor Morrison Austin has spent the past year taking an active role in its community, participating in local fundraisers, promoting social responsibility and being a good neighbor.
For its efforts, the division earned top honors in Taylor Morrison's Peak Performance program, which was created to "support, motivate and inspire all Taylor Morrison team members to achieve their personal best." The program measured Taylor Morrison employees on activities that demonstrated social responsibility, volunteerism, personal wellness and personal fitness. Taylor Morrison Austin also produced regional winners in two of three quarters for the company's "Volunteer of the Quarter" program, resulting in another $1,000 being donated to charity.
"We build neighborhoods but we're also neighbors, we feel a responsibility to be contributors to our community, helping wherever and whenever we can," Towell said.
The Austin team ranked first in the company for fundraising, collecting more than $15,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The team participated in the JDRF's local "Walk to Cure" diabetes rally on October 31 as part of Taylor Morrison's "Champions for a Cause."
"Champions for a Cause focuses on giving back to the communities where we live and work while also promoting employee health and Fitness," said Katy Owen, vice president of Human resources for Taylor Morrison. "Each division chose an event in their community to participate in and Taylor Morrison paid the entry fees for any employees and their families who wanted to participate."
Nationwide, Taylor Morrison employees raised more than $40,000 for worthy causes during the 2009 campaign, which ran for only nine months. The company expects this year's participation and fundraising efforts to be even bigger. Fundraising efforts for Haiti will continue through the end of January.
