Drink Away Reduced Snowpack - Matthew Bedrin and Green Drop Garage Present Pints for Peaks: One man's quest to be the first to climb and ski the top 40 Cascade volcanoes above 8000 feet.
Portland, OR, February 05, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Matthew Bedrin and Green Drop Garage announce, “Pints for Peaks,” a fundraiser for Skiing Cascadia. Skiing Cascadia is a Portland-based mountaineering project geared towards educating outdoor enthusiast about our declining snowpack and it’s impact on people and wildlife. Bedrin plans to summit and ski down 40 Cascadian volcanic peaks by the end of 2010. Green Drop Garage is helping Bedrin get to the peaks in a sustainable way by converting his pickup truck to run on 100% pure recycled vegetable oil.
Hopworks Urban Brewery will provide organic beer for the event, with proceeds going to Skiing Cascadia. A video presentation of Matt’s skiing adventures will be on display while two local bands provide music for the evening. Local environmental organizations will also be present for further educational outreach on diminishing snowpack and other related environmental issues.
“I hope to raise awareness of how people use and take advantage of our mountain environment through salting summer snow, the toxicity of ski waxes and leaving waste and debris on the mountain. I also want to raise awareness of the impacts of global warming on the environment, including declining spring snowpack, retreat of glaciers and decreased stream flows. My goal is to help The Surfrider Foundation’s Snowrider Project and the Center for Biological Diversity raise membership and money.” Says Matthew Bedrin, founder of Skiing Cascadia.
“To combine what you love to do with the awareness you want to raise is a powerful expression of dedication and passion. Matt is doing just that. Pints for Peaks will be a celebration of Skiing Cascadia. I think it will be a fun, educational, environmental, & inspirational event.” says Farhad Ghafarzade, President of Green Drop Garage.
