tHE.DESIGN Continues to Rock the East Coast
tHE.DESIGN, a Raleigh-based original rock band, is rapidly growing its music footprint in 2010. A young band (formed in 2006) they have gone from covering artists such as No Doubt or Maroon 5 on a Thursday evening at a local Raleigh club to headlining venues up and down the East Coast.

A young band (formed in 2006) they have gone from covering artists such as No Doubt or Maroon 5 on a Thursday evening at a local Raleigh club to headlining venues up and down the East Coast.
The five piece band, originally named Sugar the Band, began playing local Raleigh clubs as a cover band in 2007. They primarily focused on fun, energetic cover music that club-goers found danceable and enjoyable. “Raleigh didn’t have a visibly energetic cover band with a female front” says band founder, Bryan Smith. “It was very important to find talented musicians who could also bring a high level of energy to the stage for a great show.”
After the overwhelming and almost immediate success of the band across the southeast, the artists quickly put their musical talents to work in 2007 when they began work on their debut album. The band used the amazing writing talents of lead singer, Kat Whitaker, and drummer, Bryan Smith, and influences from all over rock music to produce their 2008 album, Laziest Perfectionist, which is still selling well in the US and overseas. The band began to receive national recognition for their work in 2009 when the Carolina Hurricanes secured the rights to two of tHE.DESIGN’s songs to use during home hockey games. They plan to begin work on their follow up album throughout 2010.
tHE.DESIGN is fronted by lead singer and guitarist, Kat Whitaker. Her vocal power has been compared to Janis Joplin or Pat Benatar not only because of her talent but also her energy on stage. “We are thrilled with the support that we have had over the past three years. Our success is only possible with the loyal support of our wonderful fans,” said Whitaker.
Look for tHE.DESIGN to be headlining Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC on February 20, 2010 with Cool Kid Collective. Their 2010 tour will include public and private shows up and down the East Coast and in the Midwest.
