Tamarac, FL, March 06, 2010 --(PR.com)-- “Excellent! . . . Burnt Cookies is terrifying in all the right places, and makes for one of the most fascinating case studies for sexual abuse that I’ve ever seen. It will shake you to the core, and leave you breathless on rim of society’s dredges, where there is no exit.”—BookReviews.com
“It was so moving. I cried several times—and couldn't help but think what if this happened to my son or one of my brothers. [Alberts has done] an incredible job of retelling what it was like then—as well as how [he’s] coped since.”—Mary Ann Ahern, NBC5 News Chicago
“Arny Alberts’ story is not a new one, but it a story that needed to be told and it is told so well in his book. . . . The torture that he has lived with for so many years is so boldly depicted in this fine literary work. . . . will keep you glued to the pages. . . . I would recommend this book [and] give it a very high A on my list of ratings.”—Reader Views
“The message here: Parents, TALK to your kids about sex, because if you don't, someone else will. As hard as Burnt Cookies was to read, it needs to be brought out in the open so parents will be aware of the damage pedophiles can inflict on their young boys.”—Sheila English, Red Room
“. . . a raw, passionate, heartfelt book . . . [Burnt Cookies] tells a gripping life story, as compelling as any thriller . . . honesty so intense it’ll burn a hole in your heart. . . . stands as a testament to a strong spirit. . . . an inspiring book . . .”— Andy Mozina, author of The Woman Were Leaving the Men
A terrible, and all too common, fact of today’s world is that children are sexually abused. Not just by strangers, which is horrific enough, but by those who are supposed to guard and cherish them. When the most trusted exploit this dependence, the ultimate effect can only be a long-term disaster in the making. In his new book from Llumina Press, Burnt Cookies – A Quest for Closure, author Arny Alberts explores the life of such an abused youth. Chilling and edgy, the story is one that makes you think, shudder, and yet hope.
A disturbing story with memories from different moments in time, chronicles the life of a troubled man looking into his past for answers. A seizure disorder, sexual abuse, therapy, and family-related problems limit and scar him from early life onward. The story bounces back and forth through his teens and into middle age, depicting the slow, sure degradation of his soul.
Author, Arny Alberts relates how the man appears normal to all around him for decades until a single phone call changes his life forever. A press conference against the one who sexually abused him as a youth launches a series of unexpected events in his everyday life. A final attempt to confront the abuser years later challenges the man's strength and serenity.
Arny Alberts was born and raised in a suburb southwest of Chicago, Illinois. His upbringing focused on faith, family, and sports. Hard work, discipline, and structure were created by his parents for him and his four siblings. Alberts has a large extended family and network of friends. He is married with two children of his own. He enjoys coaching youth sports, fishing and rebuilding his home one room at a time. He is Catholic and attends mass every Sunday.
