Seattle, WA, February 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Sunrise Dental has been serving the community for the past nine years and now is going to have a non-profit arm called Sunrise for Children. Sunrise Dental mission is to rescue children from child labor camps and human trafficking and find them a safe haven where children can be children. While Sunrise Dental is worried about 9% unemployment, little brothers and sisters are physically and sexually abused in labor camps. Labor rights are human rights and human rights are labor rights.
"So many of you have shown interest in the Sunrise story and some have asked me to write it for your members. My Dad was a child laborer from the age of five into his late teenage years. Instead of being bitter about his childhood, he turned his energy into community service. Even though he is illiterate, he invested all of his savings into my education, so I would not fall into his fate. His only wish was: “do not forget us, the working class.” I immigrated, by myself, to the United States at the age of 17 with much hardship. After graduating from the University of Texas, San Antonio, I joined the Community Health Centers of King County and served for two years. When I bought my own practice in Renton, I was asked by a meat-cutter, a UFCW Local 81 member, to discount his dental bill. I did so and he referred his coworkers to Sunrise Dental. President of Local 81, Mike Williams was content about our quality of service for his members, and as a result, Mike recommended us to his members, and a few other union leaders.
"Eight years later, president Williams walked into our office and asked us to unionize. He said that he has asked the two large dental groups that worked with unions to unionize, but they had refused. Sunrise voluntarily unionized. Sunrise is the first unionized dental group in the State of Washington. Next thing you know the magic of “union power” happened. Our other dentist friends joined us, and 2 ½ years later Sunrise grew from two offices to 26 offices! As more and more unions shopped union and supported us, we grew stronger. We have not let any union president down. No matter what you want us to do for your members; you will never hear No from us," Said Abraham Ghorbanian DDS
What Sunrise has done for unions in the State of Washington is raised the quality of care for the union members at the lowest possible cost. Even though Sunrise Dental is a young organization, they decided to spend their charity budget of the next three years in 2009. Sunrise Dental figured the economic times are tough, and Sunrise need to give when it is needed the most, while most people are holding back. Sunrise Dental did not let anything distract them; they put their heads down and delivered first class dentistry at the lowest cost to their union brothers and sisters.
What sets Sunrise Dental apart from others? They are local and they are “organic”. Sunrise has privately owned offices in every major city in the State of Washington. Their offices are all independent, and dentists are in complete charge of each office. Their dentists do not hire associates with no dental experience; therefore, their centers are not practicing centers for new grads to practice on the union patients. Their partners choose high quality dental products and nobody limits their much-needed materials. Sunrise offices have provided free emergency care for striking union members and laid-off educators, who do not have any dental benefits.
Now what about Sunrise for Children? In 2009 Sunrise built three new offices with union force and a contractor who was insensitive to the jurisdiction matters of some unions; Sunrise realized that the solidarity amongst the unions is insufficient. Sunrise need to all work together and create a true solid force to fight the global labor abuse. Sunrise has to join forces and rescue the children. Why taking on the human trafficking and child slavery? Why not the worlds hunger?
"As Americans we are truly a blessed nation; even this bad economy is a blessing in disguise. Our children have more rights and are safer than the children of most countries. With the slight down turn of the economy, we have more appreciation for the misery of our brothers and sisters are experiencing outside our borders. The magical message of Christmas is for us to share our haves with the have-nots of the World" said Abraham Ghorbanian DDS
