DuPage County Home Sales Rose in 2009 as Metro Chicago Real Estate Market Enjoyed Strong Second Half; RE/MAX Remains Leader in Housing Sales

Elgin, IL, February 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Home sales in DuPage County, Ill., like those for the entire metropolitan Chicago real estate market, turned up sharply in the second half of 2009 so that sales activity for the full year topped 2008 results. At the same time, RE/MAX retained its position as the leading brokerage organization for home sales in both DuPage and the metro area.

Home sales in DuPage rose slightly for the year from 7,915 in 2008 to 7,953 in 2009, an increase of less than 1 percent. The metro market as a whole recorded a gain of 1.5 percent. During the last six months of 2009, sales rose 23 percent in both DuPage and the seven-county metro area when compared to the same period in 2008.

RE/MAX agents accounted for 1,948, or 24.5 percent, of all residential listings sold in DuPage during 2009 making them number one in that category, according to Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC (MRED). RE/MAX agents also led in buyer representation, assisting buyers with 1,701 transactions, or 21.4 percent.

RE/MAX also retained leadership in total transactions closed in DuPage, representing either the buyer or seller in a total of 3,649 transactions, or 22.9 percent. The next four firms in the total transaction category are Coldwell Banker (14.7 percent), Baird & Warner (5.9 percent), Prudential (4.7 percent) and Century 21 (4.1 percent).

The top five real estate organizations in DuPage County during 2009, in terms of attached and detached residential listings sold, were RE/MAX with 1,948 (24.5 percent), Coldwell Banker with 1,212 (15.2 percent), Baird & Warner with 455 (5.7 percent), Prudential with 385 (4.8 percent) and Century 21 with 280 (3.5 percent). Data maintained by MRED may not reflect all real estate activity in a specific market area.

For the same time period, RE/MAX agents led DuPage County in buyer representation, closing 1,701 (21.4 percent) of all sales made of listed homes in 2009, topping Coldwell Banker with 1,123 (14.1 percent), Baird & Warner with 490 (6.2 percent), Century 21 with 366 (4.6 percent) and Prudential with 363 (4.6 percent). RE/MAX remained the market-share leader in buyer representation across the metropolitan Chicago real estate market during 2009, completing 16.4 percent of all buyer transactions.

Since 1989, RE/MAX has led the metropolitan Chicago residential real estate market based on closed sales volume. In 2009, RE/MAX agents listed 18.9 percent of all homes sold in the seven-county Chicago real estate market, a larger percentage than any other real estate organization.
