During the opening ceremonies, held inside of Borders Books, the Boulevard @ Capital Center, Johnson accepted the 2006 Independent Voices Award from co-founders Kwame Alexander and Carla Nelson – www.capitalbookfest.com. This award recognizes Johnson’s achievements over the past five years in the literary industry, since the inception of the Give God the Glory! series, for his tenacity, persistence, and enthusiasm as a writer, teacher, radio and television host, and speaker, promoting literacy to thousands of readers across the United States and abroad.
