Woodside Montessori Academy Readies for National Celebration

Woodside Montessori Academy of Millis celebrates Montessori Education Week with a series of events for the public. Students and staff members at Woodside Montessori Academy are busier than ever as they put final touches on a series of special events planned for the week-long observance and celebration of Montessori Education Week, February 21-27, 2010.

Millis, MA, February 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Woodside Montessori Academy will be joining more than 5,000 Montessori schools across the U.S. and around the world, including over 200 sponsored by public school districts. The school is inviting members of the surrounding communities to come take a firsthand look at the child-centered, individualized approach developed almost 100 years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori, the first woman physician in Italy.
"The Montessori system may be one of the best-kept secrets in education," says school head Kathleen Gasbarro. "We believe all parents should know about this education option, and a visit during this special celebration will give them a good opportunity to find out." To schedule a visit or obtain information, Gasbarro advises parents to contact the school office (508)-376-5320. Montessori Education Week is an annual event "designed to promote increased awareness and respect for all children, our most precious natural resource," Gasbarro explains.

Woodside Montessori Academy will celebrate this special week with the following events:

Monday February 22 at 9 pm – Elementary Parent Information Night
A Parent Lecture about Elementary level Montessori called "Cosmic Education" will take place at the Elementary campus, 64 Exchange Street, Millis.

Tuesday February 23 at 6 pm - Robotics Demo for Kids and Elementary Classroom Tour

The Woodside robotics team will demonstrate their challenge for the First Robotics Lego League Team for students ages 9-14. Simultaneously Kathleen Gasbarro will explain the elementary classroom materials and provide a curriculum tour of elementary classroom for parents. This event will also be held at the Elementary campus 64 Exchange Street Millis.

Wednesday February 24, 2010 at 9:30-11:00 a.m. – In-Session Open House

This in-session open house will be for all levels and held at both campuses in Millis - primary and middle school at 350 Village Street, and elementary ages at 64 Exchange Street.

Tuesday February 25 at 7 pm Kathleen Gasbarro presents “Who is Maria Montessori?”

This informative session will also include a tour of primary classroom.

Parents and professionals alike claim that the Montessori approach is on the cutting edge of today's school reform movement, which identifies innovations that have been part of Montessori classrooms since 1907. Multi-age groupings, a rich and extensive curriculum implemented with hands-on materials, cross-discipline learning, and care of the global environment are just a few of these innovative characteristics, according to Gasbarro, all in a school setting with a "family atmosphere." Woodside Montessori Academy serves families with children ages 3.9 through eight grade.
