Greater South Suburbs Topped Metro Chicago Real Estate Market in 2009 with 12% Gain in Home Sales; RE/MAX Retained Local Leadership
Elgin, IL, February 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- A 12 percent increase in home sales during 2009 distinguished the Greater South Suburbs area as one of the top performers among submarkets in the metropolitan Chicago real estate market last year. Home sales in the Greater South Suburbs area rose from 4,038 in 2008 to 4,529 in 2009, with RE/MAX retaining the leading share of that sales activity. The entire Chicago metro market notched a sales increase of 1.5 percent for the year.
The Greater South Suburbs market area includes the communities of Beecher, Burnham, Calumet City, Calumet Park, Chicago Heights, Country Club Hills, Crete, Dolton, East Hazel Crest, Flossmoor, Glenwood, Grant Park, Harvey, Hazel Crest, Homewood, Lansing, Lynwood, Markham, Matteson, Midlothian, Oak Forest, Olympia Fields, Park Forest, Richton Park, Riverdale, Sauk Village, South Chicago Heights, South Holland, Steger, Thornton and University Park.
RE/MAX agents accounted for 967, or 21.4 percent, of all residential listings sold in the Greater South Suburbs area during 2009 making them number one in that category, according to Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC (MRED). RE/MAX agents also led in buyer representation, assisting buyers with 805 transactions, or 17.8 percent.
RE/MAX also retained leadership in total transactions closed in the Greater South Suburbs area, representing either the buyer or seller in 1,772 transactions, or 19.6 percent. The next four firms in the total transaction category are Coldwell Banker (9.3 percent), Realty Executives (7.6 percent), Gtrealty (4 percent) and Century 21 (3.8 percent).
Since 1989, RE/MAX has led the metropolitan Chicago residential real estate market based on closed sales volume. In 2009, RE/MAX agents listed 18.9 percent of all homes sold in the seven-county Chicago real estate market, a larger percentage than any other real estate organization.
The metro Chicago real estate market experienced a meaningful rebound in home sales during 2009, especially during the second half of the year. Home sales in the last six months of 2009 increased 23 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.
The top five real estate organizations in the Greater South Suburbs area during 2009, in terms of attached and detached residential listings sold, were RE/MAX with 967 (21.4 percent), Realty Executives with 458 (10.1 percent), Coldwell Banker with 395 (8.7 percent), Gtrealty with 241 (5.3 percent) and Chicago Realty Partners with 213 (4.7 percent). Data maintained by MRED may not reflect all real estate activity in a specific market area.
For the same time period, RE/MAX agents led the Greater South Suburbs area in buyer representation, closing 805, or 17.8 percent, of all sales made of listed homes in 2009, topping Coldwell Banker with 448 (9.9 percent), Realty Executives with 227 (5 percent), Century 21 with 214 (4.7 percent) and Keller Williams with 138 (3 percent). RE/MAX remained the market-share leader in buyer representation across the metropolitan Chicago real estate market during 2009, completing 16.4 percent of all buyer transactions.
