Cardiac Healthcare Indie Film Released
Drama focuses on procedure former President Clinton underwent. A portion of the proceeds will go to Partners in Health for their Haiti relief efforts.
Boston, MA, February 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Award-winning short, “Skin and Bone” spotlights the inner workings of a cardiac catheterization laboratory, such as where President Bill Clinton recently underwent a heart procedure. This new film from Boston independent production company, Milk and Cookie Productions has been released for sale on DVD, with a portion of the proceeds to go towards Partners In Health’s relief work in Haiti.
The ensemble medical drama highlights interpersonal relationships, the multicultural nature of medicine, equity in healthcare, and the popular media’s portrayal of medicine. It won the Making a Difference Award for “Best Comedy Drama Over 30 Minutes” at COMMFFEST (Global) Community Film Festival in Toronto, and was an official selection of the Rainier Independent Film Festival in Washington state.
“Skin and Bone” filmed in Boston on a $500 budget with an all-volunteer New England cast and crew. Richard Propes from The Independent Critic says, "Magcalas has crafted an honest, authentic and emotionally satisfying short film that transcends its modest budget on the strength of Magcalas's insightful script and his equally insightful ensemble cast.”
"As dramatic as any episode of ER, this powerful little film rings much more true than any television medical drama… a touching and thought-provoking film about the health care field… raw and emotional as well as tender. This terrific film is... a work of love and a treat for the viewer," adds Rogue Cinema’s Cary Conley.
The filmmakers recently held a charity screening at Saint George’s University, where they attend medical school, to provide basic supplies to the Grenada Mental Health Hospital.
“Skin and Bone” is available on the official website for $7.99, including shipping and handling. Contact Lucy Magcalas for film stills and other electronic press materials.
