Healthcare Software Specialist Dataline Launches Important Update to Its Free SNOMED Browser
Brighton, United Kingdom, February 19, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Dataline Software - an award winning manufacturer of healthcare software in the UK – is today launching a new version of Snoflake, a not-for-profit website hosted by the Brighton-based company since 2006. The website (http://www.snoflake.co.uk) is designed to raise awareness of SNOMED and the benefits it can bring to healthcare systems within the UK health sector. After extensive consultation with its users in 2009, Dataline is launching version 3.0 of the website this month with a range of important new features.
The term SNOMED is currently only familiar to those working within healthcare, but this is changing rapidly. This new terminology – which aims to define a single code for every ailment and remedy – is gaining international acceptance. It promises a more accurate way of exchanging clinical data, and could ultimately aid the analysis of which treatments most likely lead to patient recovery. Dataline’s SNOMED browser allows users to search and navigate the 400,000 inter-related concepts; from Aardvark to Zymophilus raffinosivoransl.
The new version of Snoflake launched this month introduces:
• A simplified user interface, based on feedback from registered users.
• The International SNOMED CT 2009 dataset from the IHTSDO.
• A quick code search – using either SNOMED RT or Read (CTv3) codes.
• A simplified “add to favourites” feature that remembers commonly used codes.
Adrian Bleach, Managing Director of Dataline is enthusiastic about the growing interest in SNOMED, saying “The number of users registering to use the site has quadrupled since this time last year, which shows a general increase of awareness globally. The feedback we have received from this growing number of users has helped us to prototype new search interfaces - not just for the web, but also handheld devices.”
As well as keeping Snoflake up-to-date with the latest versions of the international dataset from the IHTSDO, the design team is building yet more functionality in 2010. A SNOMED Browser for the iPhone is due to launch later this year, plus an interface that will enable the SNOMED Browser to be integrated into Hospital Information and EPR Systems.
