Optimizing Sherman, Texas' Southern Gateway Overlay District

Sherman, Texas. Opportunity Recruiters... A concerted effort is underway by the Sherman City Council and SEDCO to assure a positive first impression to visitors entering Sherman from the south by creating and maintaining quality businesses and enhancing the visual image of the corridor.

Sherman, TX, February 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- By unanamous decision, the Sherman City Council voted to create a Blalock Commercial Overlay District in the southern corridor to the city. The significant land usage will become effective October 2010.

The Overlay District will allow 428 acres of retail business in the Blalock Industrial Park to include the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and FM 1417 and north on both sides of U.S. 75 to Post Oak Creek. Inclusive in the mix is the land fronting the former Johnson & Johnson plant and east across U.S.75.

SEDCO has a long history with new and expansion business in the Progress Industrial Parks. John Boswell, President of SEDCO, explained to council members, "SEDCO is extremely comfortable with the creation of the Overlay District. It should tip the balance in supporting industry and favor retail start-ups by introducing a major opportunity to needed businesses such as, banks, restautants, dry cleaners and a multitude of other types of personal services."

Sherman Mayor Bill Magers said "the Overlay District will stimulate the retail sector which will increase new sales tax dollars. In promoting the values emphasized in the Comprehensive Master Plan, traffic and fire safety will improve by building a new fire station and a highway exit ramp."

A concerted effort is underway by the Sherman City Council and SEDCO to assure a positive first impression to visitors entering Sherman from the south by creating and maintaining quality businesses and enhancing the visual image of the corridor.
